Artist of the Week: FINNEAS
Billie Eilish’s ultra-talented brother, collaborator and producer, Finneas O’Connell (as known as FINNEAS) is at the top of his music-making game right now. This past week, he and his sister swept the 2020 Grammys, making Eilish the second artist in history to win all four major categories (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist). Their 2019 record When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? was one of the most celebrated this year and its singles — like “bad guy” and “you should see me in a crown” — are still stuck in our heads.
What’s special about this album is that Billie and Finneas recorded it in a bedroom in their childhood home:
“People have put a lot of emphasis on that room as part of our lineage,” Finneas said in a recent interview. “It was lovely to make an album there, but I think it’s really important to work wherever you are, or wherever you have your tools.”
In October, after the release of Billie’s now Grammy-winning record, FINNEAS finally released Blood Harmony. This seven-song EP that was mostly cobbled together in dressing rooms, tour bus lounges and hotel rooms while on tour with Eilish. It’s a sleek and striking work that sounds a lot more like a pop album than Billie’s record. FINNEAS has also been producing new songs for other artists, like Selena Gomez’s “Lose You to Love Me” and several tracks from Camila Cabello’s new album Romance.
We can’t wait to see what comes next from FINNEAS. Whether it’s new Billie Eilish music, more production work for other artists or a follow-up to his 2019 EP, we’re ready for whatever comes next. FINNEAS will be performing at iHeartRadio’s first Winter Tuesday’s Series — so come and check him out if you’re in the area!
