Artist of the Week: 5 Seconds of Summer

Our favorite Australian boy band, 5 Seconds of Summer, is back with a new single, “Easier.” This bass-heavy, hard rock influenced track is the first single released by the band since their June 2018 comeback album, Youngblood, and we are loving it!

“Easier” is a little darker than most other 5 Seconds of Summer tracks, and it’s all about the rollercoaster of falling in love. “Is it easier to stay?/Is it easier to go?/I don’t wanna know, oh” sings the band’s frontman, Luke Hemmings. The song’s lyrics go back and forth about love. He’s not sure if this relationship will work, but he at least hopes they will always wake up in the morning and at least try to “work it out.”

The band first teased “Easier” by posting a 15-second-snippet of the song on their Twitter. And, to match the track’s darker nature, this snippet was accompanied by visuals of band members chained up and drowning in a hall of photos ridden with flames. It’s a little scary, sure, but we’re still really excited about where 5 Seconds of Summer is headed with their new sound!

Be on the lookout for more new music from 5 Seconds of Summer! You can listen to their new album sometime this summer, or catch them out on tour with the Chainsmokers this September.
