Celebrating 50 Years of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”

Fifty years ago, The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin brought us an all-time favorite, “Respect.” Originally written and released by Otis Redding, the song became a major hit for Aretha Franklin on April 29, 1967.

For some, “Respect” is a go-to jam to belt out at karaoke. For others, it’s an empowering female anthem and confident declaration of womanhood. But for all of us, “Respect” is a beloved and iconic song that will live on for years.

We’re showing our R-E-S-P-E-C-T by jamming out to Classic Soul Radio in the iHeartRadio office - and with hits from Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding and many others, we’ll be singing along all day. Head on over to iHeartRadio to tune in to Classic Soul Radio now!
